Old love

Hello peeps,

How are you all doing? I hope you’re enjoying the fall.
Last week we spend some wonderful days exploring some ancient sites on the Peloponnese. The weather was wonderful, apart from one morning of heavy rain. We drove through gorgeous mountainous terrain, with lots of trees in autumn colors.

This is the Pantanassa monastery in Mystras, dedicated in September 1428. It is the only monastery on the site still permanently inhabited.

These few days traveling and exploring brought my muse back to live. I am back to my old love: bead embroidery.

Last weekend I made three pairs. Here is one pair:

A picture of a fourth- still in progress- project, which gives you an idea how I make these.

The design start with gluing components on ultra suede. Then I get to play with tiny beads which I embroider on the ultra suede.
One pair will take me about 4 hours to make.

Bead embroidery gives me the freedom to place the beads exactly where I want them.
The advantage of bead embroidered earrings is that they are very lightweight.

These, as well as the other 2 pairs are available in my shop.

Thank you for visiting. And you know the drill. I love to read your comments, so don’t be shy and write a few words. See you next month.

Wishing you a wonderful day,
Janine

    1. Awww what a lovely thing to say Sweet Sue, thank you so much :) The trip was indeed amazing. Here on the coast we have mainly olive and citrus trees, which remain green. I miss autumn colors and luckily we have seen plenty of that during the trip.

    1. Thank you Erin. It sounds funny but I didn't plan them to be romantic. But I am happy they did turn out that way. The tiny seed beads on the border remind me a bit of lace.

  4. So wonderful to see and hear that time is being good to you, and that as a flower, you too are opening up your petals, to feel the sunshine again - I love your Earrings - and the fact that you embroider what you feel for that particular piece. Also love that you are finding joy in the lovely art of bead embroidery - and can't wait to see more (I'm hoping to dust my supplies off and do a little of that this winter too). Big Hugs and love <3

  6. Janine, I am in love with these. I had a feeling of nostalgia I didn't recognize immediately when I first saw them but very quickly realized that I was being reminded of the black velvet embroidered vests I wore as a young girl in Polish dancing. They were beautiful! And so are these. I know the time, patience and focus it takes to make these. I agree with Erin, that they are a very romantic style. "Old World" in the very best sense. And after all, you had just spent days viewing very old parts of our world. :) You are amazing, Janine. Much Love. n

    1. Thank you so much sweet Norbel. For your wonderful words, support and most of all, your friendship. I am so happy these reminded you of something beautiful from your youth. Because bead embroidered pieces take time to finish it is very meditative and helps to nourish the soul.
